Friends of Hibakusha (FOH), a community-based, non-profit organization, has worked with the American survivors (Hibakusha) of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki for almost a quarter-century. Among its priorities, FOH helps organize biennial medical examination visits by Japanese doctors and researchers for Hibakusha residing in Northern California, has compiled a collection of the Hibakusha's personal histories on deposit with the Bancroft Library, and provides public education about the Hibakusha's experience in order to promote nuclear disarmament as a necessary step toward world peace and understanding among all peoples. This year, FOH is working on a number of events with other groups to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the atomic bombings.
